Nicoletta Sanzin, born in Trieste, graduated with top marks and honours from the Conservatory “J.Tomadini” in Udine under the guidance of Prof. P.Tassini. She went on to specialize in the U.S.A. with E.Malone (Summer Session- Eastman University) and S.McDonald (Masterclass-Indiana University); in Italy with E.Zaniboni at the Accademia di S.Cecilia in Rome where she passed her diploma in harp and chamber music with top marks, honours and a study grant from S.I.A.E. In 2006 she got her Diploma Superiore in discipline musicali-Harp perfomance with top marks and honours from the Conservatorio “A.Buzzolla” in Adria (VE).

Absolute First Prize in the International “E.Porrino” competition in Cagliari, she has also won numerous prizes in national and international competitions (UFAM in Paris, City of Stresa, Salvi Competitions in Chiavari and in Venice). She was also semi-finalist at the renowned USA International Competition in Bloomington and finalist at the Teatro alla Scala First harp Competition. Her perfomances at “Focus on Youth” as insert in the World Harp Congresses held in Wien (1987) and Paris(1990) such as performances at European Harp Symposiums in Nurnberg and in Perugia have been further successful steps for her career; over that, she has represented Italy at the World Harp Congress held in Dublin (2005) with a program of music by Italian young composers and she has performed at the Opening Concert of the 13th World Harp Congress in Hong Kong (2017).

She has worked with many orchestras such as: Giovanile di Alpe Adria, Teatro Verdi di Trieste, the Oltenia Philarmonic of Cracow, the RAI Symphony orchestra in Rome and Naples (M.i Y.Temirkanov, E.Inbal..), Teatro La Scala (M°R.Muti), Filarmonia Veneta, Accademia S.Cecilia Rome, Chamber Orchestra Serenissima, RTV Slovenija, Moscovia Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra del Conservatorio di Benevento, Città di Adria’s orchestra, Virtuosi Italiani, Accademia dell’Orchestra Mozart, Opera Ljubljana, Tokio Kosei Wind Orchestra etc.

From September 1995 until 2001, after having won the audition, she was Solo Harpist in the Slovenska Filharmonija in Ljubljana (Maestri M.Letonja, S.Baudo, R.Barsaj, M.Albrecht, M.Tabachnik, H.Haenchen, M.Horvat, L.Hager, Y.Simonov, G.Pehlivanian, P.Fournellier, En Shao, C.Arding etc soloists J.Cura, L.Pavarotti, D.Lively, L.Lortie, D.Tomsic, M.Lipovsek, M.Rostropovic, Y.Bashmet…) where she also performed as soloist (R.Glière Concerto cond. M.Letonja, W.Lutoslawsky Double Concerto for harp and oboe cond. S.Sanderling, W.A.Mozart Concerto k299 for flute and harp cond. R.Barsaj, first perfomance of Triple Concert for violin, harp and doublebass by T.Svete, L.M.Skerjanc Concerto for harp and orchestra- first recording on CD).

During these years she also took part in numerous broadcastings programs and radio TV recordings.

She performs intensively as soloist and in several chamber ensembles (harp/flute, harp/clarinet, harp/marimba, harp/violin, harp/voice) in Italy (Mittelfest in Cividale del Friuli, Unione Musicale di Torino, Perugia Classico, Amici della musica di Padova, Festival MITO, Gioventù Musicale d’Italia, Società Veneziana dei Concerti, Estate Musicale di Portogruaro, Concerti del Conservatorio-Benevento, Associazione Lipizer Gorizia, Associazione Musicale Venezze Rovigo, Teatro Vicenza, Ferrara Musica, Casa della Musica Parma, Festival Donizetti Bergamo. Dimore del Papa Bolsena Lake, Sale Apollinee Teatro La Fenice..) and abroad (Ohrid festival-Macedonia, Purcell Room London, Sévres, Summer Festival Zagreb, Summer Festival Ljubljana, Neuebuehne Villach, Music September in Maribor, Saxa Kammermusik Festival Sweden, Wratslavia Cantans Wroclaw, Harp Festival Beograde, Passau Festspiele…).

Deeply interested in contemporary music, she has worked with many composers (J.Wyttenbach, G.Crumb, G.Coral, C.de Incontrera, B.Kos, F.Nieder, M.Pintscher, M.Pagotto, D.Masarati, G.Podio..) being gratified with the first public perfomance of compositions, some of them written just for her.

Nicoletta has played for several broadcastings companies in Italy and abroad: RAI 2, RAI 3, Telecapodistria, NTV, SLO1, SLO3, Antenne 2; she has recorded more than 20 CD’s (solo with orchestra: P.Caschetto for harp and plucked orchestra, L.M.Skerjanc Concerto for harp and orchestra, Chamber Music: N.Rota Chamber works –Decca; H.Villa Lobos Quintet;“Viaggio Italiano for Harp and Violin, “Between” flute and harp, “Collage” clarinet and harp, “Nuances” flute and harp, etc; Contemporary music: “L.Vrhunc Open Rite”, G.Viozzi Ballata Carsica, “U.Krek 80 let”, “V.Avsec Under the same sun”, “R.Golob The planet of life” etc).

For several years she has worked with Dramsam, a medieval music group.

Not only the musical activity itself belongs to her life but the teaching takes part of her daily life. In fact, in 2003 she has got the Suzuki’s Method Diploma with “Excellent” marks.

She taught harp at the Conservatory N.Sala Benevento, the Conservatory J.Tomadini Udine, the High School of Music in Ljubljana, the Conservatory E.R.Duni Matera, the Conservatory L.Canepa Sassari. Actually she is Professor of harp at the G.Tartini Conservatory in Trieste and professor of harp at the S.Cecilia’s Music School in Portogruaro (Venice).

Moreover, she takes part as member of jury in national and international competitions and gives masterclass.

Nicoletta is the Italian correspondant for the World Harp Congress Review and she contributes to the on line harp review “In Chordis”.

In July 2011 she was elected to the Board of Directors of the World Harp Congress to act on behalf of Italian harpists’ world.

From 2014 Nicoletta is part of the Artistic Committee of the Italian Harp Association.
